Halo 4 - 343 Industries

We were all hoping Halo 4 would be the best one in the series so far, it came close with it's graphics, story and multiplayer, but it's still no Bungie game.

When Halo was taken over by 343 Industries I think Halo lost it's buzz, it's still awesome don't get me wrong, but it needs that constant dedication and it's missing something vital to make it perfect. Being a fan of the series this wasn't my favourite.

It's a first person shooter just as all the others before were, set on a forerunner planet Requiem taken place not too long after the events of Halo 3. You play as the Master Chief once more, with Cortana going rampant throughout the game (After 7 years AI's practically over-think themselves to death slowly), Chief is awoken from cryostasis in a freighter Chief landed on at the end of Halo 3. On this alien planet is a race called the Promethians, an evolved species of the past forerunners. The story is set with Chief and Cortana to save the ship Infinity that crash lands on Requiem.

Multiplayer is fun, not really like the others as you will set your own loadouts for each game type, quite fun to explore and earn. You will get a variety of new guns to play with and some awesome armour to earn in your Spartan IV multiplayer career. When you reach level 50 you will unlock a specialisation, which will begin your new 10 level spec in which by the end you will earn 'special' armour, visor colour and an armour enhancement eg. Rouge - You can shoot with reduced screen wobble when being shot at. etc.

Halo 4 doesn't include a firefight mode like ODST, but matching that game-type with Infinity Spartan Ops, a series of episodes released weekly where you will fight through enemies on your own or with buddies. Each 20 minute episode is accompanied with 5 missions to blast through.

Pros:
  • Great story.
  • Stunning graphics.
  • New and old guns.
  • Enhanced multiplayer with decent maps.
  • Halo waypoint linked to the game which will give you bonuses.
  • Achievable achievements. It may take a while but you'll eventually get them all!
Cons:
  • The campaign is only 4 hours long.
  • Spartan Ops can be incredibly repetitive, the same style old missions every episode.
  • Multiplayer games can also be repetitive, as gamers keep going for the same 'big' guns and vehicles. Takes away the skill and fun.
  • It needs like what Halo 3 did, and have some themed double exp. weekends eg. Zombies weekend on Halloween.
Once you think you've finished it, there's nothing to keep you playing. If the campaign was longer and multiplayer was mixed up more often, I would keep going back to Halo 4. I think people were just expecting too much from the newly formed 343 industries taking over Halo. Bungie will always be remembered for the true Halo games.

My Rating:
7.8/10
